We looked at eight storm and water damage specialists serving the Iowa City area, what each one focuses on and where their experience holds up. Each company is described from its own website, or from its Google listing where a website wasn't available. Michel Cuevas Home Improvement
Michel Cuevas Home Improvement has been family-owned in Iowa City since 1997. On a water damage job they find and fix the source first, whether that's the roof, the siding or a failed pipe. Then they pull wet drywall, flooring and trim, dry the structure, treat the framing to prevent mold, and rebuild it with their own crews. No subcontractors.
After a storm they document hail and wind damage for your insurance adjuster and meet the adjuster on-site. And the number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. Fixing the cause instead of just the stain, plus pricing that doesn't move, is why they earned the top spot.

Before you hire
- Ask who finds and fixes the source of the water, not just who dries it out.
- Confirm their license and insurance.
- Get the estimate in writing, and ask whether they'll meet your adjuster.
Compare at least two or three companies. The right fit is usually the one that explains the job, the schedule and the price clearly before work starts.
